Reports indicate that Apple has abandoned plans for an all-glass iPhone intended to celebrate the device's 20th anniversary. However, Bloomberg states that the redesign for next year's Pro models is still on track. The report mentions that Apple expects to release new models featuring a refreshed glassy design, with glass used on the front and back of the phones, internally referred to as V73 and V74. The material will curve around the sides of the devices, with a metal band in the center.
However, the project has undergone changes since its initial conception. A more ambitious version proposed by Apple's design studio included even more glass instead of metal, but this was scrapped early on due to difficulties in connecting the glass panels. The design proved challenging for large-scale production, contributing to the decision to abandon the concept.
Bloomberg's report contradicts recent statements from the analyst firm Jefferies, asserting that Apple's product roadmap has not changed. Jefferies analyst Edison Lee previously suggested that the cancellation of the all-glass iPhone represents a significant setback for Apple, potentially impacting its ability to raise average selling prices and margins for its Pro models.
As a result, Jefferies downgraded Apple's stock, lowering its price target from $285.56 to $263.66 after a previous reduction from $308.92 in late July, following Apple's fiscal Q3 2026 results and a cautious outlook for Q4.
